Samone Shepherdson designed these business cards for Edt. Photography, a Brisbane-based photographer who provides commercial photography services throughout South East Queensland, Australia.
Emma, the business owner, approached Samone for the rebranding project. The purpose of the design was to create a brand identity that reflects Emma and her vibe.
“She wanted something fun, vibrant, eye-catching and bold, something that shows personality yet is still steered towards the professional side of her business, as she often works with corporate types,” Samone explained.
And the business card design reflects exactly that; it gives a welcoming, positive energy that makes the prospects interested in knowing more about Emma’s photography service.
Logo Design and Modern Typography
The logo for Edt. Photography is quite bold and strong. According to Samone, they used a simple, modern sans serif font that gives a professional feel to the logo.
“The logo is clean and has nice soft edges, so it’s not too harsh. The round curves of the ‘e’ give it a feminine feel.”
“We kept the font casual by using lowercase letters and playing with the negative space.”
The typefaces used are Gilroy Extra Bold and Poppins.
Fun Illustrations & Self Portraits
Samone created a series of illustrations for Emma and Edt. Photography.
Keeping in line with the fun and fresh vibe, Samone illustrated some simple line drawings that Emma could use throughout her social media, printed materials, and website.
This includes little icons that reflect her business, such as a camera, phone, light bulb, smiley face, and some simple food shapes, as not only does Emma photograph a lot of headshots, she also does food and product photography.
And even a self-portrait of the business owner that makes the business card stand out even more!
“I drew an icon of Emma that is featured on her business card, and also her dog Chester, as this really injects some personality and life into her brand,” Samone said.
“We also illustrated a set of graphic shapes and patterns that are also a fun way to ensure her content stays on brand and is an easy way for Emma to create visuals that all strongly represent her business and are easily recognised as belonging to Edt. Photography”
Another worthy mention is the taglines underneath Emma’s portrait. Something that will bring a smile to people’s faces and that helps the brand to be memorable as well.
A Vibrant Colour Palette
The brand’s main colour palette is that fun bright sunny orange, offset by navy and white with a pop of teal.
The secondary palette of magenta, cyan and yellow is a nod to the CMYK printing process, but also adds some bold colour.
“Emma’s personality is quite colourful and like sunshine, she is like a rainbow and makes people smile, so it makes sense that her colour palette reflects this!” Samone remarked.
The Printing of Business Cards
Hero Print printed these business cards on 350gsm Knight Smooth card in white, with a matt laminate applied on both sides and a raised spot UV over just the logo.
“Emma often tells me how much her clients love her cards and how tactile they are, another memorable touchpoint for her brand,” Samone added.
Overall, this is a fun yet impactful business card design that will capture people’s attention for sure!
