Tej Chauhan Graphic Designer Business Card

Studio.Build designed these business cards for Tej Chauhan, a renowned industrial designer who creates extraordinary, commercially-focused design language that connects people to objects and draws attention to brands.

“Tej Chauhan is a very interesting character, he’s what you would call a unique character in his field,” said Michael C Place, the Creative Director and Founder of Studio.Build.

“He has a very strong visual aesthetic for which we felt gave us a really interesting angle to explore with his new identity.”

“Going back to his character, we felt that it would be interesting to create a sort of graphic signature for Tej.”

“This graphic signature was made up out of visual references supplied to us by Tej. Through discussions we discovered that type and typography is something he had a particularly interest in.”

Upon one glance at the card, one can identify the name easily thanks to its bold, enlarged typography on a striking red background.

However, what really stands out in this card design is the typeface of each alphabet. Clearly, some delicate thoughts had been put into creating these unique, stylish characters.

“The client shared images that he felt informed/represented his studios work. The aesthetic of those images helped us build a foundation from which the custom typeface was born,” Michael explained.

“The images ranged from pieces of his own work to that of the work of Stanley Kubrick, ’70s graphic design and fashion to specific typefaces.”

“One of the initial routes we explored was based around the thinking of ‘how can we bring all these references in to the identity?’.”

“We proposed a ‘Multi-identity’, each character of his name was designed separately.”

“Each character referenced his work and influences in some way.”

It is also worth noting that the contact details side of the card remains minimal – a smart choice to an already visual-appealing business card design.

These business cards were printed by Pressision, a creative print and finishing company based in Leeds.

The business cards were created using a white foil on the fluorescent, shimmery paper stock from G.F Smith— Gmund Electric Blood.
