A Studio (Graphic Design) Business Card

Alan Cheetham designed these business cards for A Studio, an independent graphic design studio based in Nottingham, UK.

This is a personal project by Alan for his graphic design studio which focused on brand identity, graphic systems and digital outputs.

“The project concept was to design a bold, striking visual identity that feels timeless. A design that would lend itself to being dynamic with plenty of energy and flexible enough to develop a strong graphic system,” said Alan Cheetham, the Founder/Design Director at A Studio.

“The end goal was to achieve a bold logo mark that looked equally as retro as it was futuristic.”

“I’ve always loved bold logo designs and knew this avenue would be the right fit for my personal brand. I don’t like fuss or over-detailed work.”

“I just personally find bold and simple design has the greatest impact to communicate most effectively!”

“My favourite colour combo of all time is burnt orange/red, turquoise and purple. So, this palette was a no-brainer to implement into my branding,” Alan said.

“I’m also a massive fan of geometric forms and glitch style graphics which I knew I’d want to include in some way.”

“With the notion of padding out my brand identity with a visually striking look and through a heap of experimental process work, this evolved into a series of bold and colourful print collateral – letterhead covers, invoice covers and poster artwork.”

The Printing of Business Cards

These business cards are not printed. When asked the possible printing methods for the cards, Alan replied, “My expectations for the print finish on the cards would have been to get these duplexed, G F Smith colourplan stock against a mohawk superfine white.

“With the logo and text screen-printed with white ink over the front of the card and a black ink for the details on the reverse.”

“There would be 4 colours variations: black, red/orange, turquoise and purple stock.”

“The edge would also be screen-printed with the same colour match as the stock for the business card front.”
