Aaron Coltman designed these business cards for Haptic, a conceptual fashion house with accessibility for those who are visually impaired or blind.
“Haptic is a modern, easy-to-wear brand, host to tactile elements and braille integration, inspired by the everyday minimalist,” Aaron said.
When we asked him about the design process for this self-initiated project which he completed in a week, he continued, “The idea came 3 years ago when I was in my first year of University and I was waiting for an opportunity to really explore the possibilities of this idea that I had.”
According to Aaron, quite many establishments these days (such as banks, hospitals, restaurants) don’t offer braille versions of their print materials.
Therefore, this is a reminder of the importance of accessibility and independence for people who are blind or visually impaired.
The two yellow dots on the back of the card actually have a symbolic representation for the visual identity.
He explained, “The yellow dots are taken from the ‘a’ and ‘i’ of the word Haptic and are raised print, though not read as braille.”
“They are tactile and thus become part of the brand recognition as a tactile brand.”
The fonts used in this branding project are Pistilli and Neue Machina.
The striking pineapple yellow is a nice contrast to the concrete grey, both serve as the main brand colours for Haptic.
Aaron printed these business cards and made the accompanying materials himself.
“The business cards and physical/tactile aspects of the brand were host to a raised medium which allowed for a tactile, braille text,” Aaron added.
