Bev Hyatt designed these business cards for TopShelf Distillers, a distillery based in Perth, Ontario.
As a start-up distillery, Top Shelf Distillers needed to stand out from the crowd and identify themselves as true originals – a brand that knows alcohol well enough to make it, bottle it and enjoy it!
Apart from the fascinating, elegant design, one cannot neglect that upside down branding ‘TOP SHELF’ which is a total attention grabber! We wonder, how did Bev come up with this idea?
“The liquor business belongs to a competitive industry, one where new brands come and go every year, and consumers tend to opt for labels they’re familiar with.” Bev explained.
“Our mission was to encourage curiosity—to cheat on an old favourite. With a rebellious attitude and an attention-grabbing image, we crafted a brand identity rooted in history with a modern twist. Bottoms up!”
This playful direction of flipping the logo was functional too, allowing the customers to see the name clearly even when pouring another drink from the bottle.
When it comes to printing, Bev said, “34pt W1S gives the best of both worlds with a 2-ply card: Brown Kraft on one side and our Smooth White Uncoated stock on the back. 100% recycled, 100% unique.”
